It is drawn from care home sales actually recorded and applied to the characteristics of each home — its type, its size and where it is. Each home is matched to its own title, so the figure is for the building, never for the company that runs it.
Why is a range not always shown?
A range is shown only when it rests on the observed spread of comparable sales and that spread is tight enough to inform. Where the sales for a home’s profile spread too widely, only the figure is published — a wide interval would say nothing, and an artificially narrow one would suggest a precision the data does not support.
